" Hello class! I’m Mr. Sagikawa your Literature/Writing teacher. Since I’m new here I decided to create this small assignment to evaluate your comprehension level [and identify the idiots right away]. Don’t be too alarmed though, this assignment shouldn’t be very difficult [assuming you all can read]. Also ½ credits will be awarded to anyone who answers the questions correctly.
The assignment is to read the following story, and answer the questions that follow. Remember to read carefully, and try your best! [knock yourselves out]"Ritsu Sagami stalked gracefully around the billiard table, eyes locked on the blank white ball in front of him. The game had been close, but now he only had to shoot the eight-ball to win. His good friend and colleague , Satsuki Minamoto, was watching him with anxious eyes. Ritsu took a deep breath, then took the shot. The collision of the two wooden balls made a loud crack and the black and white eight-ball shot off to a corner pocket. It rolled precariously around the edge before falling in with a faint thud.
Satsuki sighed, muttering a half-hearted, “You were lucky.” before taking out his wallet to pay for the drinks.
Ritsu, grinning proudly, answered with, “I suppose I was. Maybe Takahiro will give you a fairer game if he manages to get here.”
“Don’t be smart.” The other laughed, “You know I wouldn’t stand a chance! Takahiro’s left arm is as keen as a dart, everyone knows that. I wouldn‘t play him again for anything.”
“You probably won’t get a chance to.” The bartender cut in. He passed their drinks across the table with a grunt, and continued. “Takahiro Mamoru was arrested yesterday for trying to break into the Gentsu’s vault.”
“What? I can’t imagine Takahiro doing anything like that.” Satsuki said immediately. Ritsu also looked a bit skeptical.
The bartender shrugged and went on. “Well, they found his glove at the scene, one of the pair Mamoru-san wears during winter time. When the police got there the Gentsu's safe had been cracked, and from what the cops say it was very precise handiwork. Apparently, Gentsu-san had come home early that day, so the burglar had to flee before he could even close the safe back up. He managed to take most of the jewelry, but forgot his right glove.” The bartend held up his own hand as a visual. “There weren’t any fingerprints, but the police are pretty sure on this one. Mamoru-san’s initials were even embroidered into the material!”
The three were silent for a moment, considering this information, then Ritsu broke the silence. “I think there is a critical flaw in this case.” Name: (your name) Is Takahiro guilty of innocent?Why (depending on your answer above)?What was the flaw Ritsu mentioned?[b]Name:[/b]

Is Takahiro guilty of innocent? Innocent.
Why (depending on your answer above)? All the events that transpired appear to play into how Takahiro was supposedly guilty of the crime, which leads me to suspect that he was framed for some unknown reason. Why would he remember to take the jewelry, but conveniently forget his glove, of all things, when the item even has his initials embroidered in it?
Also, take into consideration the phrasing of "it was very precise handiwork." If he (assuming he was the thief) was capable of such "precise handiwork," why would he forget his glove? When one can manage to be so precise, one usually is extremely careful and cautious -- constantly re-thinking actions and re-analyzing one's plan to make sure it is utterly flawless. For such a stroke of "out-of-character-ness," so to speak, to occur is very unlikely. It is improbable that he was truly the thief; again, I feel that it was possibly another person who framed him to remain unknown and thus innocent. (Also, the next section regarding the flaw Ritsu mentioned also elaborates on why I believe Takahiro is innocent.)
What was the flaw Ritsu mentioned? Take into consideration the following words: "He managed to take most of the jewelry, but forgot his right glove ... There weren’t any fingerprints, but the police are pretty sure on this one.” If there were no fingerprints, then that leads me to believe that he had his glove securely on at all times to ensure that the fabric shielded his finger, therefore preventing fingerprints from remaining. But it says he forgot his right glove. As you can see, this is practically a contradiction right here, which is most likely what Ritsu was referring to.
If there were no fingerprints, then he would have had his glove on and thus not forgotten it (it's quite difficult to forget to leave behind something you're wearing securely, and also, if he had taken it off for whatever reason, then there would be fingerprints). However, the fact remains that that is not the case. There were no fingerprints, and yet a glove was left behind. This appears to be some very careful planning on the true burglar's part -- though it is rather faulty planning, given that it, again, contradicts itself. Everything seems so clear-cut and perfectly coincidental that the case reeks of someone framing Takahiro. It truly sounds like some unnamed individual wore his or her own pair of gloves to cover his or her tracks, stole from Gentsu, and then proceeded to leave behind one of Takahiro's gloves so he would be framed before departing from the scene. |

Is Takahiro guilty or innocent? Innocent all the way!!!!
Why (depending on your answer above)? I think there are several reasons why Takahiro-kun is innocent. For one, the only evidence found was a right glove and missing jewelry. His initials were embroidered onto the fabric, but that doesn't necessarily mean it was him. For one, if Takahiro was the suspect, then why would he wear a glove with his initials in it? That really is absurd, and not even the most idotic criminal would ever think of that. He could have just worn some normal gloves.
In addition, I like to point out where it stated that there were no fingerprints. If there weren't any, how could the officers be entirely sure that Takahiro was guilty? That really doesn't make much sense to me.
What was the flaw Ritsu mentioned? Takahiro-kun was not liable to be the thief. Ritsu mentioned a critical flaw, and by this, he meant that this crime could not be solved with a single evidence, and a poor one at that. Isn't it written in the Constitution of the United States, that a man can be tried? Why couldn't Takahiro get a chance to prove himself wrong? Did the officers never hear of basic rights of all citizens!? This is insane and Riu probably knew that as well. No fingerprints... no strands of hair.. nothing except an glove that has the initials of Takahiro.
