A year has went by since James, the tracker, was killed. The Cullens, made sure that he would never come back. They missed nothing, making sure every piece of his remains were burned. But a week after his death, the Volturi, having somehow learned about this tracker, brought him to life again by only a mere chant. He was given a place among them, but only if he brings back Edward, Alice and Bella.
It is a week before Edward and Bella's graduation. The older Cullen siblings have already left the high school. To the general knowledge of Forks that is. While helping Bella filling out her college applications, Edward gets a stressing call from Alice. She sees James coming back and living among the Volturi. She also sees that James will betray them, killing Edward and Bella and then leaving the Volturi.
She also sees something else: James and Victoria reuniting. Victoria remains on the rampage, keeping to her promise of mate for mate. James meets up with Victoria while she's at the school, looking for Bella's records. The two reunite and continue on their quest for the Cullen's death.
